I might have posted this a while ago, so forgive me if I'm repeating myself.

Everytime I open and close Word, I get a funny message about macros that says: "The macros in this project are disabled. Please refer to the online help or documentation of the host application to determine how to enable macros."

I've had Word for ages, but then this started happening a few months back, and I can't get rid of it. None of the options in the macro menu help, and the macro security tab in options is no help either. When I do go to macros, the default box has a load of macros that don't look dodgy, but I don't trust them, and when I choose Normal.dot it has no macros attached. Any ideas?

I don't think I've ever used the word 'macro' as much in my life. There it is again.

Try seeing if there is a Macro open if so close it and then lower the security level.
