Hi! Anybody know how to get a specific kind of diagonal dots in LaTeX? Its clear how to get those that are horizontal, vertical, or diagonal from top left to bottom right, but how do you get them from top right to bottom left?

Basically I have a matrix with entries repeating from bottom left to bottom right, but need a general representation. It'd be greatly appreciated if somebody knows the tag!

My guess would be that it looks something like the other tags for dots such as: \ldots, \cdots, \ddots and \vdots etc...

Thanks in advance!

Thanks for the possibilities. I actually spoke to one of the guys in the office just now who had encountered a similar problem before. He showed me some code for a custom made symbol (useing the \makeatletter with some dots placed at varying raised levels). Seems to have worked nicely! Other than pointing in the opposite direction to the \ddots, its identical!

So are you guys also on the maths bus, or do you just play with the same toys?

I know, I do admire it for its speciality in typesetting and layout, but having been thrown into the deep end with a java-latex excercise with a sixth of your module mark depending on it wasn't exactly grounds for a peaceful honeymoon, if you know what I mean.

Also, the "latex is great!" attitude of our lecturer did much to ruin our perception.

If you haven't solved your problem, leave it with me and I'll ask a friend of mine who teaches it a Oxford Uni later this evening.

FWIW, I don't think it can be done as it's not one of the predefined 4 for dots.

Can you change it by chaning the reading from left-right (ltr) to right-left(rtl)?

I hate LaTeX, it lost me a huge chunk of my mark last year. So no, I can't help.
