A penalty should be awarded under exactly the same conditions as a free kick would be, were it outside the box.

I couldn't believe it either! Especially when the FA are supposedly cracking down on growing trends of "unsporting behaviour" within our players, just like this incident! :P
I was expecting to yellow card to come out of the referee's pocket - and I'm quite positive that isn't the first time we've seen Jens Lehmann involved in such controversy either...
A penalty would still have been a harsh descision though, I honestly feel. How can you give a 'dead-cert goal' for an incident that has happened off the ball, while play was not in motion?
In a similar situation, any other part of the pitch, okay, a free kick may seem feesable to award. Though, I'm really not too sure on that, either.

As much as I wanted Tottenham to beat them, for Kolo Toure, and the sake of my BBC Fantasy Football team, I didn't want Arsenal to conceed either. ? I was off my seat when Toure hit that free-kick - and yes, this was Arsenal!! Shame van Persie couldn't do too much though, he should've been given a full ninety-minutes for once, having recently turned things around on himself. :(
