Everytime I open up word I get a funny message about macros (which is a bit worrying, because I've used them to make wanabee-viruses before), and Visual Basic, goes something like this:

Microsoft Visual Basic
The macros in this project are disabled. Please refer to the online help or documentation to find out how to enable macros.

Then when I close Word I get the message again. Is there some tick box to enable something I've accidentally unchecked, or am I being fished? I've looked through the macro settings and can't see anything helpful. Can't see how something like that would have gotten through, to be honest, and I'm pretty sure I haven't done anything with the macro settings.

Uninstall, delete program files\office, reinstall.

It'll only take a few minutes, and you'll get rid of anything nasty lurking.

If you can get to a PC with the same version of Word installed that doesn't exhibit the problem, you could try just swagging their copy of normal.dot (do a search for it, it's buried deep in C:\Program Files) wholesale and copying it over the top of yours. This will hose any custom styles and stuff that you have set up though.

I've made sure all security settings are at their highest, which they were anyway.

I've check and double-checked everything I can think of, and can't see why it's doing it. Will have to wait until later now because I'm not near the laptop.

That is quite concerning, as it would imply that your blank-page template (normal.dot) has been changed to something that would include a macro. Have a look to see what Macros are present when you start Word up. You definetly don't want to relax security settings on macro's running until you're sure that whatever it is that's trying to execute itself is safe.

Over the years I've become very jaded after many bad experiences with customer services, you have bucked the trend. Polite and efficient from the Freeola team, well done to all involved.
Easy and free service!
I think it's fab that you provide an easy-to-follow service, and even better that it's free...!
