I'm attempting to edit a few old pictures from years ago, and so far I've been using Irfanview, which is ok, but not as advanced as I want. So, does anyone know any graphics/picture editing programs, free, kicking around the internet, or failing that, can anyone tell me a decent one that can be bought.

No biscuits for you, as PSP is not free. As far as free trials go, you'd do a lot better to get the Photoshop CS trial.
