I know nothing about speakers and currently I only have 1 and 1/2 working pairs in my house. They're completely crap, so I'm looking for a new pair.

Only problem is I don't know what I'm looking for.

They all seem to tell me about their impedence in ohms, but is that better higher or lower? Also are there any other things that affect the quality. Budget is less than £100.

Cheers,

The lower the impedance, the harder it is for the amplifier to power the speaker. So, if your amp isn't particularly high quality then a higher impedance would be better for the health of your amp. Most speakers are between 6 and 8 ohms.

There's no text-book answers on the quality of speakers - you can have some that sound great (...) on paper but are crap to the ears. Your best bet is to ask for an audition - take a couple of your favourite CDs and ask them to connect the speakers to a system that's a similar spec to yours. Or ask if they'll let you pay a returnable deposit so you can try them at home.

You can get some superb "bookshelf" speakers from the likes of Denon, Mission and Kef for under £100.

10/10
Over the years I've become very jaded after many bad experiences with customer services, you have bucked the trend. Polite and efficient from the Freeola team, well done to all involved.
Very pleased
Very pleased with the help given by your staff. They explained technical details in an easy way and were patient when providing information to a non expert like me.
