Regardless of the previous effort, I genuinely think this has much potential. For a start it's being done by Crystal Dynamics (Soul Reaver/Snowblind) and on top of that, they're actually going back to the IP's roots.
I like the 'Intelligent Lara, Smaller Breasts, Frag Grenades'. Hopefully it'll play like MGS3. Not in terms of core gameplay/play mechanics (or focus on stealth/crazy Japaneseness) but in terms of arsenal and weaponary. They should incorporate stealth into it, that'd be good. Like Stolen, but a good version.
You couldn't use much more than darkness (a la Splinter Cell), but even that would add to the 'I'm an explorer and it's me vs 1,000,000 bad guys who are just over this wall in this very cave!' feeling. Like Indiana Jones... sort of.
In terms of storyline, they could pretty much do anything. It could be an untold story from the old Lara days. Lara could have a new start and go back to Archeology. Anything. We'll find out more at E3, i'd imagine.
