I didn't do it.

My older brother's PC that I rescued from the attic. New windows install worked fine, brother wanted to give it to our younger brother or his girlfriends parents. It's been idle in my office for several months just running FAD and downloading movies.

Younger brother finally wanted to use it. Took him 2 days to really [censored] it up. IE wouldnt run, installed Ad-aware and Spy-bot. Spy found 200 and said it got rid of them. Then did Ad-aware and it went over 600 finds (both updated). Smeg knows what kind of sites he's been going to but atleast 50 of them are level 10 on the risk scale. The rest from 3 to 9. Tried getting rid of them all but it just freezes. We managed to get IE working somehow but that only lasted a few hours and it's dead again and he can't do anything. Pretty much the worst stuff you can think of is on the machine.

Any advice on what I should do now? It's running ME at the moment, worth saving I suppose as long as he doesnt go to those kind of sites again.

Still can't believe he messed it up so bad.

EDIT: Oh and the computer is either really slow or isnt running, like a frozen desktop upon start up I think. About 40+ programs running on Ctrl+Alt+Del

MS say you can't run MS Anti-Spyware on ME.
It needs a 32bit OS, i.e. NT,2000,2003Server,XP.

While it's never advisable to defend the use of ME, the Operating System is not at fault in this case (insofar as any variant of Windows would have suffered similarly). I second Nimco's call for a reinstall, while it's probably possible to restore the PC, the manpower necessary makes it unfeasible unless there's no other option.

Would it be out of the question to reformat? Would probably be easiest....

ME is the root problem, there.

On a more helpful note, why not try MicroSoft Anti-Spyware? It's in Beta, but it's good.
