1 - The dilution of ideas

Ok, say a professor comes up with a brilliant idea writes a book about it which sums it up completely and neatly. Fine so far. Here we have an idea clearly explained that is useful. However the professor now realises he can keep going 'expanding' upon his idea with vague guesses inorder to create a second book and earn more money. Gradually the idea becomes diluted.

2 - The breaking of a person's will

Exams are just memory tests. Why do we place so much faith in the fact a person can remember some dates? Why can't there be more marks for original thought and 'thinking outside of the box'? It's usually the mavericks that make a lot of difference, the people who change things so they work better instead of sticking to the status quo.
Well you can't remember a list of numbers so you must be stupid. Thewhole system seems to be geared up to make you think one way and one way only, go another way and you 'fail'.

3 - The assumption that money and wealth makes you a better human being

Since when? This seems to be a concept that's put about by the media who are funded by companies trying to sell you things. It has been suggested that the reason that women's magazines airbrush pictures and create a more perfect image of models than they actually are in real life is too make their readers buy the products by making them feel inferior by not being something that doesn't actually exist.
Of course these companies are owned by rich people and they're not about to turn around and say 'look at us, some of us are actually quite evil', no they'll divert your attention away to villains in less properous lands who don't own PR assistants.

4 - The lawyers are winning over common decency

Don't comfort that dying woman, you might make her worse and the family will sue you. Infact don't do anything ever or someone will sue you, have a nice day but try not to breath in my direction or I'll sue you. Obviously a bit extreme but it seems people are afraid to help or look out for each other each other nowadays. Personally if I see someone sitting down in a street looking a bit down I'll ask them if they're ok.

Two things make me agree that the way most exams are carried out is totally pants.
I know one guy from school who has a great memory, he memorised all the important stuff and textbook answers to loads of questions and in his exams did well. Ask him to explain stuff or give his own views on similar things and he is totally lost and fails to make an intelligent stab at it.

Then there is the fact that today in almost every job when you have to do something you are usually trained, get stuck and you just go ask someone else for advice or look it up in a book or on the web.

More of the overall grade should be decided on by constant testing throughout the course of the class, homework, set exercices and coursework should make up the majority of the grade.

Yes but original thought can be rewarded by markers in exams, there should be criteria for that sort of thing.

Also on the point of 'Money making you a better human being' I mean it in a sense that the media portray's people in this way sometimes purely because they are well-off. Sometimes when they're asked their opinions on things the line gets blurred and their opinion somehow matters more about various causes and political events because they are rich. The media gives them the chance to shape popular opinion and give people advice on anything and everything purely because they have the distinction of being wealthy.

It depends on intent, a great mind would continue with his idea because he wanted to and wouldn't risk his hard earned reputation on something slack. If money is the motive there is no reason to be careful.
What i really dont like and i've seen it before is where someone comes up with a simple great idea and other people come along and add all mannner of bells and whistles to the point that the original idea is compromised.

> 2 - The breaking of a person's will

Original thought can't be quantified at testing level, you have to learn like everyone else, follow the guides, by all means have flair but this system can't reward things outside it's mandate. You're asked questions, you answer them, it's the only way to be recognised at basic level.

There is no such assumption, there is however an assumption that money makes you a happier human being and thats not true either. It's freedom that comes with money that will make you happy, if you can find that freedom without money you're heading in the right direction.

They only win if we let them, there are still decent honest people in this country who will do whats right and we need to stop being so apathetic towards those who do take the low moral ground. The lawyers have thrived in America because it's seen as acceptable to sue at the drop of a hat, that can't be allowed to happen here.

I preceive a professor as an authority and/or instructor of truth...what is established fact. An "idea" has still yet to be evidenced. If they insist on publishing a manuscript of hypothesis, then yes, they lose credibility. What is it he's trying to teach?? That he has a slew of ideas fluttering around in his mind? That's madness. He should either just revise the transcript or draft a whole new text to reflect new evidence. Especially if he's professing it before a forum of innocent minds.

> 2 - The breaking of a person's will

Ever notice that the mistakes are what we retain more so than anything? The system is geared to conditioning your mind to problem solving. Being able to conform at will and still maintain your own productive flair is a feat for the fittest of minds. Don't fret, some of the most famous rebels made the biggest impact. Unfortunately they got shot in a firing line.

Make the money...don't let the money make you. Viva la Marketing Specialists!! I make people's homes look fly so that they can sell. Does that make me bad?

> 4 - The lawyers are winning over common decency

That was quite touching Heddy. But, I think you're thinking to extremes really. *lights inscence* It's true that the court system is so backed up because of trivial suits. Everyone these days seems to take offense so easily, think they've been wronged in one way or another, and seek some vindication or relief through loop holes of the law, slandering themselves and others on the court dockets... *sighs* Why can't we all just get along damn. If you were down on the roadside, I'd ask if you were alright, too. Hell, I'd even let you use my celly if you needed to. Just no International calls to America mmkay? Pshh..what a bill. I should sue someone.

Sound like a good idea most people write books to make money even if the idea needs to be shared with other people in the industry or area of expertise.

Although corrupting a good idea that works just for the sake of wealth seems a shame.

True, i mean look at Top Gun.

I don't know where you got this from i have never heard someone say that before. Everyone knows people with lots of money are evil or abuse it, but that’s human nature and no one can say they wouldn't abuse the money until they know what it's like.

Although lots of wealthy people give a lot to charities to try to look nicer and even though they are doing it as a PR thing it still helps people out. i am sure there are genuine people that what to help that are rich but i bet that’s cause they know they are going to hell cause they killed their parents to inherit it.

> 4 - The lawyers are winning over common decency

I think this is something that happens more in America than here really as we still have a reasonably good legal system but I’m sure in time you'll have people suing for abuse on here.
