Saw this last night on a cable channel...it's bloody scary! I don't think I've ever seen a drama quite as harsh about nuclear war. The firestorm was the worst thing, everyone getting all burnt and buildings getting blown away and on fire. And it could easily happen too. One mistake by either of the superpowers and baboom! Not saying we should all go out and buy bottled water (I think a revolver and a single bullet would do me after seeing this!).

It's a really well produced piece of television too, seeing as it was made by the BBC. Only one or two special effects for the explosions and they're not bad for the 80s - real explosions, mushroom coulds, etc. super-imposed over the Sheffield skyline. Gritty and realistic, not a whiff of Doctor Who about it. I'm sure if this was shown now (it was made in 1984), some stupid parent would complain about the realistic harshness and despair shown.

I particularly liked the scene where an atomic bomb exploded outside, while the old fella was on the toilet, and he exclaimed "Bloody Hell!".

I think that says it all, really.

*slaps wrist* Made a mistake and edited it? Bad monkey.

Anyhoo, Threads is absolutely bloody terrifying. Nice to know there's still a good dental care plan after the apocalypse (Check her teeth right at the end :D )

And when you said 'London Skyline', you meant to say 'Sheffield Skyline' didn't you?

I think it's one of the most genuinely disturbing pieces of film I've seen. I bought a copy off of ebay recently so I could remind myself how bad it really is.

I think it should be part of the national curriculum. And George Bush should be forced to watch it 8 hours a day, with his eyes taped open, a la clockwork orange.
