Anyone still around?

Anyone know how to reformat a hard drive?

Or where a decent fool-proof guide is?

Preferably tonight?!

Cheers

Heh, cheers dude.

But after having had one last try, and being unable to convince it to make XP work (and no hope of a product key any time soon), I think I'll give up quietly.

It's kind of lame though - I thought after reformatting it would have taken XP from the CD alone, like a new machine.

Oh well, maybe I can get a couple of hours sleep yet

Haaaarrrrrr

I did it.

Only to be boned again by my lover-boy Bill.

So I figured out why drive F wasn't responding - it was because setup, on the disk, had been shuffled into a directory. And E was allocated to the other optical drive.
So I specified setup.exe's path thing, within the appropriate directory, and all seemed to be sorted - half an hour 'til I can go to bed.

Then..

Product Key.

Oh crap. I don't think I can be bothered to rummage for it.

If I could make the thing start itself using my XP boot disk I'd be fine, no problem.
And since I just reformatted, I'm not sure why it won't let me.

Oh well, I feel like I've at least achieved something - if I had the product key I could be on my way, home free. I sort of know how to reformat a hard drive.

"not ready reading drive E"

It was supposed to be so easy.

All the guides stopped at this point. The disk was just supposed to start up, and I was there.

Yeah, right.

When it stops 'reading drive E', it tells me 'bad command or mumble mumble'.

It's quater past five, I'm disillusioned, and I don't know when I'll sleep. Bill Gates makes me cry.

Yay. It's 4 am and a frankenstein computer is in the process of formatting its c drive.

It looks like I might have been better using the other computer's hard drive, I couldn't be bothered to go dig it out and compare capacities, after all the mither breaking into the fort-knox-esque drive bay rig (very old tower) with only an oversized flathead screwdriver.
I suppose I could have put them both in (though it'd confuse my sister, when she gets it).
Might do anyway if I finish this first one in reasonable time.

I have a feeling I should have planned this a little better, instead of diving into two non-functioning computers at 2 am, having never reformatted a drive in my life before tonight.

Ah well, I'll go see how the formatting is getting on.

Wish me luck, you sleeping masses.
