Hello. Just connected a new hard drive. The device manager says it's working properly but I can't see it from 'My computer'. Can anyone help me out?

In Disk Manager, right click on the drive and click 'initialize' then right click again and i think it was just 'format...'

Sorry took so long to reply

No worries - how did you solve it in the end, just so we know for future reference?

OK, in Disk Management, try right clicking on the drive and selecting "Change Drive Letter" or using the "Set As Active" option. Let us know how you get on.

Just noticed in Disk Management it says

Disk 1
Unknown
76.33 GB
Not initialized

so it recognizes it but as you say, it hasn't allocated it a letter so I'll fiddle around with the wires

EDIT: I have just initialized it so it is now 'online' like the others but i still cannot see it through explorer or my computer

Yeah, in theory, you just boot into Windows and try and access the drive - it'll say "This drive is not formatted, do you wish to format it?", hit Yes, Bob's your uncle.

But only if Windows has assigned it a drive letter.

It's an IDE.
My Dad and my Brother said it just needs formatting.

IDE?

Check jumpers - should be on CS or Cable Select.

Over the years I've become very jaded after many bad experiences with customer services, you have bucked the trend. Polite and efficient from the Freeola team, well done to all involved.
