Can't say they make any of the songs any better no.

I'm probably wrong actually thinking about MV.

Without solos Frances the Mute would probably be about 15 minutes long.

Actually I think there was a Volta one I liked from Frances the Mute. Can't remember.

I have no idea. I just can't remember any that are good. There's probably a couple I've heard and thought "wow jism wahtever".

And of course, the fact that I can't do better makes him good?
Your 'refute' is the age-old moronic argument that because a person isn't good at something, they can't recognise that someone else isn't either.

"he's a crap singer"
"oh yeah?!?! I'd like to see you do better!!!!"
"I couldn't. Explain how that makes him any less bad?"
"oh, sorry, I'm an idiot."

What *I* can do on guitar bears NO RELEVANCE to how good Kirk Hammet is. Technical ability is all well and good, but it's of no consequence if what he plays sounds crap. Kirk Hammet is an excellent guitarist, but he is not good at writing musically impressive solos.

The only Metallica solo I can play is Master of Puppets, and that was because I have a 'friend' at school, who, like you, suggested the only reason I said Kirk Hammet was a crap soloist was because I "wasn't as good" or "jealous". And I'm not suggesting that because I can play that I am as good as him, because I most certainly am not.

i have admit i agree with that for the most part. Hammett HAS written some good solos, but sadly he's written a lot more bad ones, they're all pretty contrived :S
