But quite alot of Playstation games are BBFC classed like grand theft auto and resident evil nemesis but anyone at any age has just walked into a games store and bought them.
Why are the BBFC so strict with films and not games, don't get me wrong i have loved not having to hassle about age for games but i can't understand why they are only on films?
> Someone's been reading the latest PSW... :-)
No i haven't mate,i didn't know about them putting the price up until someone on here told me.
Either that or a hugely big box of stuff will get dropped off tomorrow and is chucked onto the shelves on Friday morning. Or its already in the shop.
About a month later, I saw it in Game! They obviously realised that they were missing out on quite a bit of cash!
It's a good point though. My personal view is that the majority of stores simply don't know - or rather haven't kept up with - what's going on in the videogames world.
For the benefit of those who don't buy PSW, they sent a 13-year-old boy into six well-known and popular stores with the aim of buying a PS2 game with a BBFC rating of 15 or 18. The stores were Dixons, Virgin, WH Smith, Woolworths, Game and Electronics Boutique.
In four of the six shops, he managed to get a 15 or 18 rated game with no questions asked about his age; yet the same stores refused to sell him 15 or 18 rated DVD's. The only two stores who refused to sell him the games were - you guessed it - Game and EB... the two dedicated gaming stores.
The article shows one thing very clearly - that the average high-street retailer doesn't have a damn clue what's going on. It also shows that BBFC ratings on videogames are a complete waste of time, as they appear to be ignored or just not taken seriously by the 'average' high-street retailer.
