some Ps1 games do not work on the PS2 because it's not the actual playstation hardware e.g (MGS special missions),The same applys for the DVD player on the ps2 it's not an actual player so some dvd's don't work the same as a normal player, which probably explains why the PSW dvd's work well with the ps2 but not as well with dvd players, they have been made to fit the PS2's hardware on the DVD player.

I reckon that Ps1 games are now tested on Ps1 and PS2 to make them work effiently on both but i've only ever seen about 2 dvd's saying "DVD video" then compatible with ps2 so this means they've been made and tested on both.

I think that now that the PS2 has been out for a while the publishers of all fomats are making their software to use on both.

do you agree?

YEAH I tried that, and admittedly it did help on the gladiator dvd.

However, I watched 2010 for the first time last week, and even with the Diagnosis on, it was unwatchable halfway through the film (due to lip-synch...or lack of).....

I wonder if Sony really have made the dvd player too fussy.....they make plenty of other dvd products...

maybe registered owners deserve an explanation/apology/new dvd driver!

The lip sync problems seem to be dependent on the disc as well as the machine. I too have Gladiator, but no lip sync problems with it. However, some of my other discs do. It seems the PS2 is extremely sensitive to something.

To solve this, at the main PS2 menu, press triangle, and then over console, press triangle again, then where it says diagnosis mode, switch it on (with the disc in), and then go to the browser and press play. This doesn`t work perfectly, but it certainly helps the situation.

(This was shown in a post by Wookiee Monster a few weeks back).

turbonutter, if this is the case why do ALL of my dvds have lip-synch issues :

MI-2
MATRIX
2010
EXCALIBUR
GLADIATOR (both discs)
RUSH HOUR
NOTTING HILL (not mine......girlfriend's......honest)

I could believe the ps2 was not at fault if it was just ONE disc.....

This is balls. The PS2 DVD player is a standard DVD player with all the correct software. Some DVDs won't work because they are badly coded.

The PS2 is less lenient than some DVD players. It's like the Netscape of DVD players.

I think its stupid that not all dvd's or ps1 games work on the ps2. They should have made it for all dvd's and the games to fit it, instead of expecting other develpers making these things and having to test them.
