"Yet Another DVD Problem"

Now, I know this isn't a "TV / DVD" Forum, but in general I've found the users in this forum to be the most knowledgable on the site.

So anyway, my Sony DAV-SA30 speakers are acting up. (I think.) Whenever I try to watch a DVD in Surround Sound (DDPL II) or in fact try Surround Sound for anything, it just crackles with static.

Methinks it were disk.

Me hope.

The only two things I can think of are;

1. Are the speakers compatible with your TV?
2. The speakers are faulty/ broken.
