OK, I've had this problem for a few months, and it got pretty serious a fortnight ago. Whenever the system is under a little stress, or just anytime, the pc switches off, and a horrible beeping is emitted from the tower, that can only be silenced by pulling the plug.

It may be an overheat, as I hoovered the fan and that seemed to help a little, but it's possible that something else is at play. Has anyone got any suggestions at all? I can hardly even watch DVDs now, let alone play any games.

I had the same problem, did it sound like your computer was going into over drive just before? If so then this is an overheating problem and probally caused by a layer of dust between your heat sink and your cpu. When your cpu gets to over the default temp (can't remember it's in the Bios) your compouter safely shuts down. Try clearing the dust out with a cotton bud or somthing like that and then it should work fine.

It could be overheating. Download some software and see if you can find the temperatures inside your case measured by built-in thermometers on the motherboard.

Try taking the side panel off the case - does that stop the problem? If so, it sounds like it is overheating.
