A safe bet for a family car is always to go with a brand of car that you trust, and I have to say that I don’t trust many more than Ford. Ford has, over the past 3 or 4 years become the leading manufacturer of family cars with rival destroying models in the form of their cutting edge style Focus, and the old, and now new, Mondeo cars. The ford Focus has to be the best of the Ford range in my eyes. For starters, I own one and will probably upgrade to a 1.8 zetec next time around, although the 1.6i, as I have, is a very competent car.

It’s a family car with so many superb features that it stands out from the rest – it betters the Vauxhall Astra in many areas, including price, Ford’s service, and of course style, and is a much more pleasurable car to drive than the somewhat dated Volkswagen golf that really doesn’t seem to be all that great other than in build quality! The Focus excels in all areas – areas where others fail, and so I would recommend this to everyone who is thinking about getting such a style of car.

Price wise, it’s not overly expensive to run, with low insurance costs (obviously this will depend on your age, driving record, and location, so don’t quote me with a figure), and I’ve managed around 38-39 miles to the gallon! That’s pretty good I think! A great shame that petrol prices are on the up as ever, how grim! Anyway, the car itself is a superb bargain, even at UK prices with the Focus 1.6i Zetec, the slightly sportier looking model, which I have in a really nice star silver colour, starts at around £11,500 and you can various added features too like different paint styles, trims, colours – a very good wide range including a rather dashing gold colour! And you can opt for different packs, like the styling pack, safety pack, electric pack and so forth.

Go into your dealer, ask for a test drive and learn why the Ford Focus has become the best selling Ford, the best selling UK car, and the highest rating small family car in a very long while! Superbly smooth to drive, thanks to an excellent suspension it’s also very comfortable, oh and the very supportive seats help too! The air-con is very worthwhile, so do get this along with the extra safety features like more airbags and ABS, ask for a brochure or order one from www.ford.co.uk an excellent official website from Uncle Henry’s people!!

So, without any prangs or crashes (touch wood) I haven’t really had any extra costs, only had to change the wheels as you never get the best looking alloys when bought new can you?

Anyway, look around for second hand models, they do keep their value much better than the Astras, and cost less to start with than the Golf. Seat’s Leon is the only car to really come close as a complete package, so if you are in the position to get one, do so! Focus rocks, and you know it makes sense!
I recommend you buy new if you want piece of mind. Thank you ford!

I have an uncle with a Ford Focus, it's very comfortable but I don't like the lights! Very cutting edge? Good speakers though, which is one of the most important aspects of a car - the stereo ;)
