Ah well, not all are like me... I mean I don't often get a chance to watch the programs on television that I realy want to watch, so on my day off (Wednesday) I manage to find an hour or so to sit back and watch something on the box from around 3pm to 5, and countdown is one of the game shows that I find mildly entertaining - it's a decision out of this and Ready Steady Cook with the everhappy Ainsley Harriot and co! So, I usually alternate! Countdown has been running for around 10 years now and seems to be a really popular tv show, with presenter Richard Whitely, the incredibly clever Carol Vorderman (I mean, she's like on £4m for 5 years with Channel 4!) and the two chaps in the dictionary corner - acting as referees + participating throughout the 30second game times, with the two contestants battling it out to see who will become the champion!

There's a test of your vocabulary knowledge with the idea being you have to make the longest word from a selection of 9 letters that the contestants can choose - either a vowel or a consenant, they don't know which letters will appear, so it makes everything work well! The numbers game is slightly more challenging, although recently it's always been relatively simple, with a target that you have to make from using 6 numbers - you can multiply, divide, add and subtract in order to reach that number! The player that gets the best words and closest to the number or gets the number, receives the points!!

Richard Whitely is a very good host, always in good cheer and keeping Mrs Vorderman on her toes! It's a really good show that is always played in good spirits, where the players often have a good laugh and enjoy themselves! It's a program that has recently had an overhaul in the presentation for the new millennium! There's an advertisement break half way through for you to get your cup of tea or coffee and a bite to eat!!

ahhh Countdown, gotta love it

I can do the number games well, but I have yet to get a countdown conundrum.

Shame

Oh well long live Richard Whitely

See what our modern society has done to innocent people? People who should be playing outside have now been reduced to sitting in front of the box watching game shows!! :D

Anyway Countdown.. some memories there. A kid in our school ran a Countdown club.. I cheated.. I had one of those anagram solvers. Won the whole competition but in the second got found out and was stripped off my pride.

the morale of this story? Don't cheat!!

Countdown would suggest one thing and one thing only! Hunt are you a student? Tell the truth there is nothing to be ashamed of. To be honest it used to be my favourite, jointly with Fifteen to One and Ready Steady Cook. The problem is that I don't get to watch daytime TV since I got a job (sigh!) so it is good to know that somebody keeps the word and number quizshow flag flying high and proud.

Brilliant! As usual the careful and intuitive production that Freeola puts into everything it sets out to do, I am delighted.
Wonderful...
... and so easy-to-use even for a technophobe like me. I had my website up in a couple of hours. Thank you.
