Is this when you load Half-Life 2 up? If it is, it does take a while then things start moving.

If you open up the activity monitor (right click the steam icon in the tray), does it say if HL2's still updating?
Same thing happened to me... said it was ready to go but still with about 40% left and it just hung on that blurry load screen.

Yeah - let off some steam.

Please - there's no need for applause.

Works now - got into the Canals..and then it failed saying it needed a map, but couldn't find it.

I'll try later.

Wonderful character animations/expresisons and atmosphere (excellent dystopia)- the canal so far seems to be a tad bit crap to be honest, but the game is wonderful and even runs nicely on my PC, except for it has to pause every half a minute for a tiny bit and then goes again.

Is it this one?

"Map Version is 0, expecting 19"

The quick fix is as follows:

1. Go into your \Steam\SteamApps folder.

2. Rename the file called sourcemodels.gcf to something else.

3. Relaunch the game.

This will re-download the correct file and hopefully get you playing. If you're still stuck, let Valve know, they're already working on a bug fix that addresses any other problems that might occur.

That's the bit just after you meet that guy with his friend in the big red box thing? I get the same thing. Except it booted me back to a menu (but with no background), then if I tried loading again from there it then gave me the map error expecting 19 or whatever.
Will try that later thanks.
