The main, non-motorway, road I use to get to work had not been gritted last night.
I was steadily chugging along on what I thought was an empty road, when I get over a crest and see a queue of cars ahead of me. I panicked and started braking. It immediately jumped into skate-mode and there was no way I was going to stop without hitting the car in front.
I managed to veer off into the middle of the road (it was widened with an overtaking section) and started drifting between both lanes of traffic.
Just my luck this all happens right before a fairly steep drop, made worse by the state of the roads :|
I figure I'm screwed if I continue down the road, so I attempted to edge back into my lane, through a gap of cars, into a side street. I have never been so lucky in my driving life.
I eventually came to a stop in the side street before turning round and rejoining the stationary traffic.
It was quite damn scary, but all I could think while sliding was "Wheeee!" :D
Seems apt.
5Mph Handbrake skids = fun. :D
I went about 5mph round it last night and still nearly went into a house.
I was also thinking im getting closer and closer to that car and im still not slowing down..
Still, I love the thrill of almost getting mangled in a car wreck :D
I should start to be more careful though - don't want to ruin my No Claims!
Ive done almost the same thing on the motorway but it was water not ice..
