Can someone please explain to me why you need a credit card when you register your Xbox Live account name, and how much do you have to pay? I thought £40 starter kit and that's it

Not that I know off. Might take switch, not sure.

As for premium downloadable content, it makes very clear that you have to pay for it and then it gets you to confirm it and everything.

Is there anyway not to use the card. Do you know when you are downloading some crap you have to pay for?

A years subscription is indeed £40.

Reason for the credit card is so that you are over 18, or have a parent (or legal guardian) who has given permission for you to use it. You see some games have premium downloadable content, which costs £3. PGR2 had extra cities and cars for £3. That gets charged to the card, if you decide to download it.

That's what the card is for.

The starter kit gives you 12 months subscription for free. As said already, they hope you forget after 12 months and start paying.

If you dont get the started kit though, you need credit card to start paying immediately.

Anyone actually know how much subscription is a yr? I'm only a month into my 12 free however was just wondering. Someone said £40 and others say £10.

You need it so that it automatically subscribe you once your current one runs out.

Microsoft are just trying to make more money from the people who will forget about it and forget to cancel... :D
