Got a second hand phone off a friend at work, a Sony T610 with camera and nice big screen. But he was on Orange and I wanted to use my O2 Pay as you Go Sim.
So, now either I have to pay to get it unlocked (I think the phone shops are cheaper than the branded shops like O2 and Orange shops) or get a pay as you go Orange Sim (would this work though?).
Looks like I'll have to pay after all. I wanted to keep my number and all the numbers stored in the sim too. Gah! Phone companies are a pain, who invented locking phones?!

Nope, T-Mobile will only do their own phones. Orange won't even answer the phone. I've sent them an email though, but it looks like transferring to an Orange sim is the best option.

you need you IEMI (or what ever the flippin' hell it is) by pressing * hash 06 hash.
this will give you a long number, take a note of it and phone T-mobile, explaining you want to use their network on pay as you go, and they will give you the code you need, and wont cost you anything.

I have a feeling that the Sony's don't have that function and also I don't have the old Sim any more, so I can't even get in.

google it, I unlocked my nokia and samsung just by putting a code I found on the net. I'll have a little butchers for you
