Having recently purchased a ps2 for both gaming and the dvd playback its dawned upon me that thank god i'm keen on watching movies because there doesn't seem to to many original titles due for imminent release. Having picked up a games mag this weekend I've come to the conclusion that the most anticipated titles are all going to be sequels. MG2, Silent Hill 2, GT3, Tony Hawks 3, Syphon Filter 3 and so on. All these are undoubtedly going to be class and I know it's early days but with X-box and GameCube due soon I don't want another of the consoles I've purchased being driven to an early grave as was the brilliant Dreamcast.

I dont care if a game is a seqeul. Games that are good e.g Final Fantasy, Resident Evil, Gran Turismo, MGS e.t.c should have sequels. As they usually improve on the game, give you extra story lines extra. The Final Fantasy games are a different story every time, set if a different place, time with different characters. The only thing that stays the same is the name plus a number 1 higher than the previous one. If crap games spawn sequels then thats the time to moan, as why produce a sequel to a crap game. The sequel may turn out good but the chances are slim.

Some thicko from nintendo formum said the PS2 has never ending sequels,

excuse me but mario started on the atari 2600 (i've got it) the nes (got that as well) the snes (and that). The N64 (grown up now) and now it's coming to the gamecube along with donkey kong and all the furry little buggers that the 64 had.

The sequels on the Ps2 are Fantastic so bring em on.

Nothing in my opinion. Well, up to a point anyway. When it is the move onto another console then I think its alright (for example MGS2 and GT3 etc..) , but if (using Tomb Raider as an example) you make 4 versions of the game on one console (or is it 5 now?) it gets too similar on there is no point in buying them.

However, even in the case of Tomb Raider, if there is a person who has just bought a PSone, that person may want a tomb raider game, in which case the latest one is the best choice.

There are also the Final Fantasies which all the Nintendo priests love to use in every argument about sequels "What is it now? Final Fantasy 194?" and so on. However, there were only three on PSone, and now we move to another console. This is also helped by the fact that the story, cast and entire planet is different everytime.

So, there is no problem usually, except in some extreme cases such as Tomb Raider and Mario.

Here is part of the usual list:
Onimusha.
Red Faction.
Project Y or whatever.
The Getaway.
The Bouncer.
Super Bombad.

The sequels themselves will not feel hugely like sequels anyway. For example GT3, a racing game obviously, will be different because it has had the next gen makeover. Normally racers don`t vary much from game to game, so the change from GT2 to GT3 will be more significant than the difference between two racers on the same console.

You also mentioned MGS2, but I don`t think that a second game in the line is too bad. Most people on these boards can`t wait!

Lastly, if you are looking for games already released, only recently Starfighter and ZOE were released. Also, at the PS2 release you had SSX and TimeSplitters.

There are other fine titles, but personally I think that list would keep me going or a long time.
