I thought it was utter rubbish, but it appeared quite genuine.
They followed the spread of obesity, and watched as it spread across the US from one cost to the other, much like the spread of any other virus, and how it's only appeared at such a phenominal rate in the past few decades?
The guy is in the early days of his resaerch at the moment, but, seeing this, it begs the question that, if it's a virus, can it be cured somehow?
Anyway, I put this in this forum as I thought it's probably a better place for discussion, rather than the "TV" forum.
Upon further research, apparantly the virus doesn't "Produce fat" but slow the metabolic rate, althugh in several obese people, their metabolic rates can be higher than lean people.
Anyway. Enough, I don't really know too much about it, as I only caught bits of the programme as I was working at the time.
So, yeah, did anybody else see it?
Obviosuly he's making it up just to cover up for other people, there's no way it could possibly be true, could it?
I mean, obviously it HAS to be the fault of the people.
Depite the fact that I know a guy that's 6'6" and weighs just 10 stones, yet eats about 3 times as much as a 6'2" guy I know who weighs double that.
.....
It is possible you know.
> Some people are so obese it does make me wonder if it's physically
> possible for them to eat that much in the first place.
You do wonder what the hell goes on with these mountainous people who weight about 50 stone. I mean, you don't just wake up one morning and go "Holy s***! I gained 30 stone over-night!"
That amount of weight gain must take a hell of a lot of work. It's like a career.
No offence meant, I love all obese people.
On another note all these Atkins diets are all rubbish too. What you need to do is have a few hours of exercise, don't eat crap all the time and have balanced, healthy(ish) meals.
That's what I have done in the last few weeks and nearly lost a stone. Not that I was fat in the first place but now I look sexy.
I mean, why would a company that makes fizzy pop and chocolate want to encourage kids to cram more sugar down their diseased throats?
I didn't see all of the program though.
But it does sound plausible.
And I'm not making excuses or anything because I'm fat
I can't seem to get myself over 10 stones, yet I want to gain about 5.
I'm sure that there was probably something the triggered the slow metabolic rates like a virus or something, but if you started getting fat you wouldn't continue to eat the same foods or the same amounts (unless you wanted to be fat as some sort of experiment about water displacement, got tired of seeing your shoes or thought that guy you saw with a triple-chin was cool).
Shows like that are probably about 2 years worth of research and then they come up with the conclusion, people need to watch what they eat and exercise more.
