It isn't that Nintendo are better than Sony or Microsoft (although in my mind they are), but they are excellent show men. Did you see that Mario fountain at Spaceworld, the Pikachu car, The Gamecube unveiling, everytime a gaming event comes around it is Nintendo that hit the headlines!

Using Spaceworld is a little unfair but it is Nintendo only but E3 was to be a Gamecube bonanza and more infomation about the X-box than ever before! So I expected it to be Microsofts big event! But Starfox adventures and Super Smash brothers is what everyone is making a fuss over!

So Nintendo do have the capabilities to advertise their products better than even Sony! If Nintendo can make a show of their products all the time then maybe it will be Nintendo sitting on top of the gaming market!

Point 1) From www.Sonyweb.com - In the US Sony sold 500, 000 PS2s on day 1, it took Sega 2 weeks to sell 514,000 thousand (the second fastest!)

Point 2) From PSX.IGN.COM - Sony Computer Entertainment UK announced that 50,000 PlayStations were sold in the UK during the week of March 22-29. This was the largest single week's sales of any console since Christmas last year.

Point 3) Playstation 2 boosts DVD sales
By Jan Howells [06 Mar 2000]
Sony has sold 980,000 Playstation 2 consoles since the product's launch in Japan on Saturday, boosting the sales of DVDs in the country overnight.
The company said the sales figures were 10 times that of the originalPlaystation console which it rolled out five years ago. Sales figures for Playstation 2 include those sold on the internet.

The PS2 sold 165,000 units in the UK on day one, anyone able to quote a console selling more???

Actually, the PS2 has almost been disasterous.

In Japan, it sold faster than any other console ever.. however, from about a month after it's lanch the games:consoles ratio has been at or below 1:1. ie there are more PS2s being sold than games. The reason is that:
1) There are no absolutely radical new games out like MSG2
2) DVD players in japan cost over £500 a time! The PS2 is a cheap alternative that happens to play games

In America and Europe, the DC has been the biggest selling console over the Xmas period. It is still doing better in america due to the ludicrous deals on DCs!

Finally, the PS2 has cost Sony loads in replacing faulty ones and getting them into the UK to start with. To begin it was thought that the UK would get PS2s with the smaller microchips... but these took too long to make. So Sony had to go back to its old plant and RESTART the PS2 making process! Sony then had to rush them here for the release!

You can tell who the biased members are here....cos they change the facts to make them sound right.

for the attentions of that person who actually thinks the PS2 sold 700,000 units in Japan: It's a fact that it was only around 70,000. adding another 0 doesn't automatically mean you're right just because you think that there is some kind of mistake!

Bonus, if you give a store one cookie and two people want that one cookie, obviously the cookie will sell out.

Bonus, if you give a store 2 PS2's and 3 people want those PS2's obviously they will run out.

Sony only placed a small amount of PS2's into the country last year at launch, they did this in Europe and America.
It was the fastest selling 'console' in Japan at launch, but the Dreamcast still holds the title in Europe, and I am not sure about America, all I know is that the GBA is not classified as a console but easily outsold the PS2 for amount sold every second for the first month of release in Japan... and I think that trend will also continue everywhere else in the world....

so the winner is and will be the Game Boy Advance!!

Genius.

Pure Genius.

That is something you are not bonus.

How could the PS2 be the fastest console sold on it's release day in Britain, actually Europe, if there was only 500,000 PS2 released to the whole of Europe on its first day, 200,000 of them were in britain and the rest shared between every other country in Europe.

Thats half of what the PSone sold on it's first day in the UK, whereas the 500,000 PS2s was shared throughout Europe.

In my mind and i'm sure many others that does not work out.

I think it was more like 700,000

All I know is, the PS2 was sold out totally so we will never know how much it would have sold.
