Well, information on the NINTENDO GAMECUBE games has finally arrived, much to the delight of millions of Nintendo fans. Personally I can’t wait to get my GAMECUBE, just imagine it, Graphics just like, or even better than those seen on the Playstation 2, Gameplay like that experienced through the Nintendo 64 and the quality assurance that consists of just one word - Nintendo

But with all the hype is there anything that Nintendo are missing out?! The games are there, and looking at the launch line-up so are the developers. There is no worry of ‘kiddie’ games, as although PIKMIN is there, we’ll have Metroid Prime and Eternal Darkness at launch and then Turok Evolution during the summer of 2002.

I really can’t see what Nintendo have left out, the NINTENDO GAMECUBE’s power exceeds that of the Playstation 2, there will be more titles at launch than there was with the PS2 and more than there will be with the X-Box. The gameplay is definitely there, and I am not going to say, “It’s Nintendo – Enough said” but all the reports of NINTENDO GAMECUBE games from E3 have been positive. Starfox Adventures: Dinosaur Planet, one of my personal favourites, was even taken as a VERY serious contender for the Zelda 64 beater. And, but the looks of things that could very well happen.

I am glad to see that more developers have signed on, okay so ‘We’ don’t have Square or, to any real effect, Konami - but once the NINTENDO GAMECUBE hits shelves and the user-base increases, these companies will realise that there is money to be made and we might just see Final Fantasy 12 and MGS2/3 on the NINTENDO GAMECUBE sooner than we expected.

Every console has to have its exclusives, Mario™ and Zelda ™ are just a couple of Nintendo’s. And although I wish Nintendo every success I still want to see some competition. And as silly as it sounds, despite the N64’s thrashing from the last console wars, I kind of enjoyed the debates about ‘Best Console’, ‘N64 Vs PSX’ and ‘Graphics Vs Gameplay’ especially in the FOG forum.

I also believe that despite their E3 disaster, Microsoft will do well and are still serious competition, some people, children and adults alike have counted the X-Box out already, but how can you?! A ‘super-console’ with lots of financial backing, exclusive SEGA games and quite a release list IS a threat to Nintendo and their GAMECUBE. And for something that fast and powerful for a mere $300 / £300...can you go wrong?!

I also can’t see how some people think that the whole PS2 idea has been and gone. Personally I believe, despite being a Nintendo loyalist, that the PS2’s future is very bright, maybe not GAMECUBE bright in my eyes but, never-the-less, MGS2 is a very good game and one that will definitely shift PS2’s this Christmas, GT3 is another one. There is talk of a PS2 – Driving Wheel and GT3 for about $349 US Dollars, and regardless of how cheap the GAMECUBE is this Package and an MGS2 one like it are serious competition and these games are probably in about the same demand as some of the GAMECUBE launch titles if not all.

One thing Nintendo are definitely doing right is releasing the GAMECUBE as a 100% Gaming Machine, any extras will just hinder sales and product reliability. I for one believe that Sony would have a much better head start of their PS2 had show more strength at launch, in terms of consumer confidence, and this whole consumer confidence thing is something that I think Nintendo will win.

A cheap console, at a rumoured price of $200 will definitely go down well with parents and with the right marketing, by letting the suggested target market (late teens to mid 20’s) know all about the GAMECUBE and the ‘mature’ games they are almost definitely on the right track. Also I think that two different types of packages would be a good idea, for example, one with Metroid and Starfox Adventures and the other with PIKMIN and Luigi’s Mansion.

Also with this reported GBA-GAMECUBE link, similar games released on both consoles like Metroid and eventually Mario Kart, should play a major part in the companies’ future. Hopefully the Nintendo On-Line Gaming Servers will be up soon and, as with PSO, millions from all over the world can gather together and this time experience ‘The Nintendo Difference’

All in all I think Nintendo have got the right idea, and if they even decide to get an on-line server with not that much support up they’ll have Phantasy Star Online V.2 to get it off the ground.

I can’t tell you what the future holds for Nintendo, hopefully a very good place in history for the Gameboy Advance, the GAMECUBE and the company as a whole.

We can either sit in front of the computer wide-eyed OR start talking about all this. I say we do the latter, and many of you will agree - So get talking!

I Thank You

Konami have made quite a few GBA games already! Don't think they're not supporting Nintendo yet....

They're probably waiting to see how the Gamecube does first.
