No, what really gets my goat it the poor gimmicks the creative department are paid to come up with are actually all stolen. They're not even creative enouygh to steal from other, more 'cutting edge; feds, they just go back and watch their own tapes from seven years ago and recylcle everything.
Here's a selection of the current roster and who they are 'paying homage' to.
Simon Dean - The Bodydonnas
Hassan - Iron Sheik
La Resistance - The Quebecors
Big Show - Andre The Giant
John Cena - PN News
Eugene - George 'The Animal' Steele
Mark Jindrak/Chris Masters - Lex Luger
I'm pretty sure there are others, but I'm having a mental block. Where on earth does Steph find these 'creative geniuses'?

I'd kill for something original that hasn't been done before.

Only works for certain wrestlers who can convey that 'pure wrestler/real athlete' aura.
Angle invitational - Razor Ramon did this kind of thing ages ago, which lead to the career birth of the 1-2-3 kid (X-pac)
Viscera - er... Viscera.
William Regal - a watered-down Lord Steven Regal (granted it's the same guy, but they nicked it from WCW. when WWF first contracted Regal they gave him a builder gimmick as a "mans man".. it was all a little bit "village people" for my liking)
on the same line, HHH's original character was a lift of Lord Steven Regal.
