Well, at some point, you'll be ambushed by the-fat-kid-that-hangs-around-with-Malfoy, but prior to that, have you fought a Bad-Bookcase, and then jumped over the gaps and retrieved the splodge spell?
I thought you had to use your cloak thingy and sneak past the prefects.

Not in the library, use the edges of the desks at the bottom of the screen, then, with any luck, just head into the doors.
