I've got a creative set up and it works a treat, picked up for about £100 from dixons, reduced from £250.
It sounds great, especially in Halo, although it did buzz quite alot, which is due to having the speakers, and amp plugged into the same socket, so just run an extension cable from another socked to power one of the two and that should solve it.
went off on a tangent there, but might help people with the same problem.
The only problem with optical cables, is that the ends are quite fragile. I used to swap it between my Ps2, Xbox and PC, and the end snapped, and they are about £15 for about a metre, my advice... find one you want, take it out the box when the owner of the shop isn't looking, hide said box, ask assistant how much it is and get a discount!
