It would mean Pc gamers would most definetly buy one, and it would open up console gaming to many new consumers who wouldn't normally have ever entertained the idea of a gaming console, as up till now other consoles games are mainly aimed at children, where the x-box's games would be of a more mature nature similar to pc titles.
Personally the more I think about it, the more i'm convinced the X box is going to be a far bigger hit than anyone could have ever invisaged.
Hmm... The X-Box... P3-600 CPU, 64Mb RAM, a Hard drive, nVidia graphics chipset... Sounds like a PC in a box to me. I think that the X-Box could actually work to the advantage of PC owners.
Let's think ahead. The X-Box becomes a success, and games developers start shovelling good quality games for it out the door at a fast rate. But hang on, "the technical specification is basically the same as a PC, so we can re-use the code with a few tweaks and release a PC version!", they say. This would be an opportunity that games publishers won't miss easily.
We already have kind-of the opposite situation with the Dreamcast at the moment. Lot's of popular games on the PC are being released on the Dreamcast, simply because it's easy for the developers to port it (after all, the Dreamcast does run a variant of MS Windows CE). For example: GTA2, Hidden & Dangerous, Worms Armageddon, MDK2, Quake 3 - to name but a few.
x-box will crash and burn
