Didnt realise people who made original were off there heads on acid but i loved it!
E.g. Puff the Magic Dragon (Alright, it's a song, not a TV show but the point remains.)
"Puff" was an obvious name for a song about smoking pot; little Jackie Paper's surname referred to rolling papers; "autumn mist" was either clouds of marijuana smoke or a drug-induced state; the land of "Hanah Lee" was really the Hawaiian village of Hanalei, known for its particularly potent marijuana plants; and so on. As Peter Yarrow has demonstrated in countless concert performances, any song -- even "The Star-Spangled Banner" -- can be interpreted as a "drug song."
And if you don't know the song: http://www.smile-a-day.com/puff.shtml.

I'm fairly sure Lewis Carrol was an opium addict when he wrote "Alice in Wonderland", but the Magic roundabout story is true. Do some looking up. It's a french animation with English dubbing over the top. The character names were changed from the french originals.
The only thing that's true is that it's a weird programme, and certainly a product of the sixties, but not intentionally drug related and certainly wasn't made by people on acid. The odd characters support the drug references (Zebgadee - speed, dougal (actually a characterure of Charles De'Gaul) with his sugar cube addiction, but the simple fact is it's nothing more than a simple kids programme.

Aha. here we are.
"He wasn't supposed to be in all that much." In the original French version, Douglas was a bit weird - the only character with an English accent. Then there was Zebedee who boiiiiingggged all over the show, and as for the dopey rabbit . . .
Surely the Magic Roundabout was drug- fuelled? "Here we go again. We've been through this every time," Wood says a tad impatiently. "It's a load of rubbish. It's not true." He claims it was academics with too much time to do too little work who made this ridiculous suggestion. "There was this other chap, a rabbit, played the guitar... " Dylan? "Yes, Dylan, that's right. And, of course, he was always asleep." Yes, quite, was he a stoner? "There we go. And universities cottoned on to that, and they said he's really high."
Was he credited as co-creator of the Magic Roundabout? "Danot didn't believe in that. He started it, so he took the credit." That's part of the problem with animation, Wood says, there is never one person entirely responsible for a series, no auteur as such."

They were'nt. It's a long discredited urban myth. If I remember rightly, it was a french animation series offered to the BBC. They refused, saying it was too difficult to dub into English. Someone involved in "Play School" liked the animation, and simply made his own stuff up over what was on screen.
It's like Captin Pugwashs' "Seaman Staines" and "Master Bates". Simply not true.
