I have just bought a Panaflow 92mm silent 42Cfm fan 27dba (at 12V), supposedly for a thermalright XP-90 heatsink which I haven't even bought yet.

You see - I can start FAD again with these two coupled together because using my current Coolermaster Jet 4, whenever I start FAD I have to crank it right up to keep the heat down. As I tend to spend many hours working next to my PC, it can proove to be awfully painful on the ears...

So I figure if I get an efficient fan and killer heatsink, I can have a hot CPU cooled by a slowly churning quiet fan - should compliment my Sonata case perfectly. Its for a good cause then right?

Replies form this will determine whether I go ahead and buy the XP-90 heatsink, the alternative being to resell the (rather expensive) fan on Ebay...

I bought Tales of Symphonia without having got myself a GC yet.

Hardly in the same league, but still.

Well my xp-90 arrived yesterday, I initially installed it the wrong way meaning that the heatpipes were rendered useless, as the heatpipe fluid was unable to get back to the base (hey it was easier to install that way)...

Anyway it gave me temps of 56C on the CPU and 78C on the PWM at full load, so lying in bed thinking what a waste of money it was, (although almost silent) I realised my mistake. So today when I could be bothered I battled with it (including removing the PSU temporarily) to get it to fit the other way round so that the heatpipes are working... and hey impressive results... a 2.8GHz P4 (Northwood) overclocked by 700MHz is stable at 48C (full load after 6 hours) and the PWM at a decent 60C (because the XP90 overhang blows down on the PWM area).

All this at no sound cost, the panaflo fan is very quiet even at full RPMs,
Verdict: Highly recommended, just make sure you install the damn thing correctly.

Yes.

Aluminium has a higher heat capacity than copper as well, so for a low speed fan it is the better material. If however you were to bung a 5K RPM Delta on it then copper would be better.

It's a good combo. But not as good as the prometia I think I might buy.

But yes.

Although my favourite fans are Thermaltake Smart Fan 2s.
