Kameo, didn't they have a hit with "Word-Up" a couple of decades ago?

Anywho, not in this context, Kameo: Elements of Power is a new game from Rare, due for release in 2002 on the NINTENDO GAMECUBE (they like it to be written in capitals).

It looks to me like someone at Rare looked at Pokemon, and thought "I know what I'd have liked this game to have been!"

The basic story is to save 8 'children of the elements' or something else that really doesn't seem that important right now. What's really important is the way in which you go about your quest. This is also where the similarities with Pokemon come in.

Your character can capture creatures at a young age, and train them up. There will be 60 different creatures available in the game.

This is where the similarities with Pokemon end. You don't travel around battling other trainers, you use your creatures to help you on your quest.

Along the way you will encounter many enemies, and from there you can either let your creatures take them on, or, if you'd prefer you can 'become' the creature, and take them on yourself!

So far this game is looking rather impressive, and it certainly fits into Nintendo's philosophy of innovation!
