Ever since I first played Sonic the Hedgehog on the Megadrive I've been hooked on games. I bought my own Sega Saturn (I'm a traitor to Nintendo, I know) and played it much more than I should. I had the urge to get through every level and get 100% on every game and I bought as many new games as I could.
Soon, the Saturn died and I moved on to the N64. The day I got that was amazing. I only had Mario 64 for about three months but it didn't matter, I was content to play on that all the time and I was desparate to get those elusive stars to make my game complete. My collection of games quickly began to grow though and games such as Banjo-Kazooie and DK64 kept me playing for hours on end without breaks. My love for games was at its peak.
I still had my N64 and the Saturn in the loft but I wanted more so I got a Playstation. The N64 still got most of my attention because as we all know the games were better but I now had enough to keep occupied and take away my social life. Any time I did meet up with mates we always ended up playing games, no talk, games, no eat, games, no football, games.
The N64 was in its last few months. Many had PS2s but I was holding out for the Gamecube. The N64 had treated me well, I owed it to Nintendo. When it came (from SR actually) I was just as happy as the day I got my N64. For months I played Mario Sunshine, SSBM, and Starfox Adventures BUT I'd lost the desire to complete my games. Mario Sunshine is still sitting on a shelf with about 15 shines still to get and there are another 3 trophies for me to collect on SSBM. In fact, there are only 2 games out of my 26 that I've 100% completed on the Gamecube.
The last few months have been the worst. In the last 4 months I have bought just 2 games, one of which I won; Animal Crossing and Metroid Prime 2. I played AC for the first week or so but it bored me. The Metroid Prime 2 came and I thought my faith would be fully restored. I've enjoyed playing, it's a great game, but I haven't been playing not stop for hours like I would have a couple of years ago.
So it's finally happened. I've become a casual gamer.

You write on a gaming forum and you think your a casual gamer?
I barely finish any of my games, I don't have time to play them.
But I'm not a casual gamer.
A casual gamer is oblivious to what is going on, unaware of future releases other than the ones advertised.
I only finish around half the games I buy, but I love to talk and discuss them.
My love for playing them is fading, but I'll discuss them for ages to come. Thankfully though my brother is one of those Ninja gamers, so when the next generation of consoles come out, I'll just play with him on his 'Revolution' and won't have to worry about my own console, as I won't have one.
If a game isn't up to perfection then I don't finish it.
I do finish most Nintendo games though which is my clue they haven't lost it. And the last 3 Ubi-soft games I have owned have also been finished.
If I buy a game, and I can't do it/don't like it, I won't force myself to play it. I'll just leave it, realise I've conned myself out of thrity quid and quickly trade it in for another game before the value drops more.
However, I do buy alot of second-hand games, which is good as if I don't like them, I've only lost around 10 quid.
But I seem to be able to play most Nintendo games, and I am looking forward to Paper Mario 2 and Prime 2, which should have arrived by now. Bloody Christmas time!

Never collected those last pearls though :P
are we really getting bored of playing games, or just a sign of getting older.
It was all about gameplay, me and my mate we always on the old tape loader of the spectrum, games were simple but very addictive.
we both got a 64, my mate purely for the sniper rifle on Goldeneye, £200 just to play with a computer animated sniper rifle, yet many a good evening was spent with four of us around the tiny 14" TV.
now with all this technology, and all the hype surrounding new releases have we just come to expect more? Could I really find myself sitting in front of the spectrum for hours again?
Would Goldeneye keep me entrapped like it has?
I doubt it, I guess, and it's sad to say, we've all moved on, I still play games, but not as much.
I buy new releases hoping it would make me feel like other games have in the past, but no.
in a way, I'm glad I grew up with gaming, appreciating the finer things of C++ programming and the horrid noise from the tape loaders of yesteryear. To think it was all we had back then, I'm sure we wont have the die-hard gamers in the future, like we had back then
Could it be that I'm "growing up" or a lack of time. Maybe I just don't want to play them. I hope one day I will get round to playing them and see what I might have missed out on if I didn't. I have the feeling that some may never be played. Others might but maybe in a few years time or even when I'm retired. That is a very long way away and maybe I'm being over dramatic but that really does look like one of the only times I will get to play some of them.
