Is it time to move to 1024x768 now for making websites? I think it is.

I've never liked making full page sites but I feel that 800x600 is far too restrictive now and for the few people that use it they can just scroll sideways.

Taken from Statcounter.com, these are the stats of the latest people to look at their site:

2464 1024x768
2031 1280x1024
513 1600x1200
492 unknown
384 1152x864
121 800x600

121 people out of just over 6000 people is a pathetic amount. I'm sure that 2% can have the hassle of just scrolling.

Goodbye 800x600, you've had a good innings.

Yep, I won't be making it any bigger or it will become imposible to read.

General answer from the world of Zeldman/Veen/ALA/Wired etc is still 800*600.

Saying that though, with those adopting standards and accessible approaches to websites these days, resolution should be non platform dependant and fully scaleable whether PC, PDA, Mobile or whatever.

Personally I still work from 800*600 but stop at 1024*768 as anything above that starts to become really unusable for reading etc (line lengths).

End of the day, it personal choice, but to increase penertration and usage to the wider audiences, you should always cater for the lower end of the market/scale and work upwards.

Remember that's screen resolution though and not browser window size...

I stopped using 800*600 years ago, it's too damn small.
