With the N64, to keep a game looking smooth and un pixelated, devellopers had to use bland balloon faces. This led to nintendo's cute image.
Now they've added detail to the faces and given some of the characters a less childish appearance, they still keep their good character but can no longer be slated as being too cute.
The Mario on the Gamecube isn't the Mario we saw on the N64. It's the Mario we last saw back on the Snes (the one that everyone was the right age to play!)
It's like it was during the days of the Snes. Cartoon games that weren't slated as childish.
I don’t think Nintendo should go too over the top though, as I am quite fond of the “cute images”.
Lets be honest, the games such as Mario, Zelda, Jet Force Gemini, Donkey Kong and all the other "“cute character games” is what made Nintendo so successful, right?
But, yes you are right...it won't harm Nintendo to produce some not-so-cute games.
Hopefully, people will not see Nintendo's machines as a kiddies toy, or whatever they think...
