Haven't listened to much of him, but what I've heard I love and I'm interested in more. Where's a good place to start?

Live at San Quentin Prison 1969.
Some of his best songs and a landmark gig, worth buying to hear him singing "San Quentin" and the inmates cheering and yelling to "I killed a man just to see him die"

Get there quick though, if it wasn't bad enough that everybody likes him when he died then every other person will suddenly be a big fan when the movie's released this year (with Whacking Phoenix as Cash)

£5.99 at HMV

£8.99 from play

And it's steep, but if you were a Cash fan before he died and suddenly all his CDs were available instead of having to order them import...not bitter about that or anything...then a 5cd box set is the very best you'll ever hear

And if you can, or if I see you on MSN, try to find his cover version of "One" by U2 and "Rusty Cage" by Soundgarden.
Genius.

I'm not the biggest fan of his own stuff as I don't really like the Country-Westerny sound, not heard much either.

Anyway, my mate put an album together of covers or it was a proper album which are all good. Hurt is excellent.

Not a country fan either, but Cash and Chip Taylor are some of the best singer/songwriters ever and the genre doesn't matter any.

And to summise why Cash was and is The Man in Black, here's a scan of the full page ad taken out when his album was nominated for an award by an industry that ignored him for years.
