Keeps crashing when it gets to Windows, blue screen of death, "VMM(12)", something like that. I've tried it about, ooh, 20 times - same each time! Any idea how I can fix it? Bloody ME.

Ah-ha - needed to repair my registry. Hit F8 loads on start-up, start in safe-mode, then run scanregw.exe - fixed! Huzzah. Now I don't have an excuse for not finishing my project on time...
I think it being Windows ME is enough. Cheers, will try that.
Could be all sorts of things :¬(
As you've got ME, try starting in SafeMode (F8) and use System Restore to go back a day or two...
If it doesn't start in safemode try your startup/recovery disks.
