I am currently doing an awareness raising / alerter course regarding basic skills. The issue is of more importance than you may initially think....up to 35% (in certain geogaphical areas) of adults suffer basic numeracy and literacy problems. This can have a major knock-on effect on crime, health, industry etc. As I am currently trying to raise awareness to the issue...please can can only type posts to this thread, either in a foreign language or code...see then how tough it is to figure out what people are talking about...see how frustrating it can be..

I do find it quite astonishing just how many older people I meet who struggle with even the simplest of mathematical equations of which they require for everyday working life.
It seems to me like the younger people among us speak in a code of their own anyway, and that's hard enough to understand as it is, at times.
