After several formats, and several installs, my windows XP installation code is getting the message that it has been used too many times.
Fortunately I have a second disc and code... But ya know, it's my mothers - and what if she needs an install?
Am I meant to get a new code or what?

I've always done it by phone - it really is surprisingly painless.

Sometimes, but it's painless. If your code/situation is legit there is nothing for you to worry about.

It's actually 3 times (Domestic Versions) then after that you have to phone for them to reset it, then it's 3 times again etc etc.

Its an automated voice on the phone, its pretty quick.

Not sure what you mean by used too many times. But usually, you can (re)install 5 times (and the activation is done via the Net). Everytime after that you need to activate by phone.
