Hello. I'm Forza. And I suck wang at using PS.

Quick question - I'm 'cutting out' an image using the lasso tool.

Anyway - I was wondering if there was a way to like "pause" your progress. Like, so I can zoom in on certain parts of the image where a particular amount of steady-hand-ness is needed (using a trackball which doesn't really help matters), go so far, "pause" as such, then zoom to the next section and continue?

If that makes any sense, please answer.
Thanks.

What does the magnetic lasso actually do?

I always use selection ranges to cut out things...

ok, instead of doing CTRL with +/- to zoom in, try this:
basically, in most high end packages, a lot of functions are controlled from the shift/ctrl/alt keys and photoshop is no exception.
if you hold down CTRL and SPACE you'll see the magnifying glass appear with either a + or - sign in it (i can't remember offhand which one) then just click to zoom in or out (whichever it is), if you use ALT instead of CTRL then the zoom goes the other way.
also, if you hold down SPACE you can then hold down the mouse button and movie the mouse to navigate your image.

Forza - hold SHIFT as you select the parts of your image, it will save everything you add to it as a single selection until you (CTRL D) to deselect everything. and remember, if you add a region you don't need, it's as simple as (CTRL Z) to get out of it (remember that PS only undoes the last thing and then REdoes it if you (ctrl z) again, to undo multiple steps, use the history tab and find the relevent point to undo to.

sorry that was a little long winded, good luck!

Hm...not much of a graphics person but..
You can use + and - on the keypad for zooming in and out for one, not sure about moving the view though.
Also are you aware that with the marquee/lasso tools, you can hold down shift while using the tool and it'll add your new selection to an old one. Also holding down alt allows you to cut out pieces of your previous selection too. Those 2 give you several ways to build up complex selections without having to do it all in one go.
Any help?
