I'm having problems with Windows Media lately. I recently installed a software package for my digital camera which came with QuickTime Media Player (this needs to be installed for it to run).

I just can't get any media files to load up. I don't mind using either of the programmes to view my media stuff. I'm using XP if that's any help.

Thanks in advance.

To make Windows Media Player the default application - right click a file of the type you want associated with WMP, then click Open With (use Shift+Right Click if there isn't an Open With option) then click Choose Program. Choose WMP and check the box that says Always open with...

You'll have to do this to each filetype that you want to open with WMP.

Hope that helps.

Look in the settings, I don’t use QuickTime for my music etc. so I’m not 100% sure but they is probably a "default media player" tab. Make sure its unchecked or whatever.

If that is a no go just Google "windows media default media player" or something.

I now know what's up, QuickTime is now playing my media. But it's annoying because it loads up a new browser and plays the media in the middle of the window. Is there anyway to change it back to Window's Media or anything? By the way thanks for your help because I haven't a clue what i'm doing!

Windows media player doesn't load up?

Do ctrl + shift + esc Then go to the process tab and see what is loading up.

You may have windows media already open but not showing up so if so right click and press end process. If not look at some other programs that may be running that are not allowing it to open. Azureus does this to me sometimes.
