I'm not really bothered by sequels. I love good games, so if there's ANOTHER Mario/Zelda/HALO/Conker/Metroid released, it doesn't bother me. As long as it's good, i'm all for it. Original IP's, unless backed by a super-big company, rarely tend to reach many of the goals the designer/programmers originally set. Which is why, unsuprisingly, a lot of 2005's games are sequels.
One game i'm looking forward to inparticular is Conker: L and R. Predominantly for the LIVE play, but the recent OXM disc had re-ignited my yearning for some more of the Single Player Mode. Especially with certain up-grades. Noticably the graphics, but also better sound, and maybe some extra areas. Another XBOX title is Republic Commando, which although could be over-shadowed by TimeSplitters 3, the continual dominance of HALO 2 and a New Rainbow Six on the Horizon, should be very good and promises some cool LIVE play. Splinter Cell 3 is a no brainer, really.
Nintendo-wise, there'll be a Mario and a Zelda. Guaranteed. Mario is quite a way on in Development, as is Zelda, as you can tell by the polished visuals, and by the fact that they already had the WW engine in place! Hopefully E3 will announce something new from the Retro camp. Echoes will have been out for a goo 6 months, and work wil already be underway on a new title. Perhaps an Original IP? Add to this some announcements for Christmas releases of Second Generation DS games, and we should be rocking, from a Hand-Held point of view!
PlayStation obviously have the PSP to launch, and a handful of PS2 games to announce. My favourite ucoming game for the PS2, which is in fact multi-format is Fight Night 2005. They've made it loads better by the sound of things. You can now cut your boxer to improve their vision in the EA: Cut-Man Mini-game. Add this to 8 new boxers, photo-realistic character-models, more fluid movement and the ability to MOVE AND BLOCK, and you've got a hit already. it's on LIVE, too - which makes me VERY relieved! GT4 is another one.. Hopefully with stunning on-line play. MGS3 is another, hopefully that'll arrive about mid-Feb, maybe March.
It's the time again, too, where the buzz of New Console announcements is at a high. The PS2 will be in it's 5th year, XBOX want to launch whatever they've got first, and Nintendo are determined to launch alongside their competitors no matter what! Hopefully all this competition will mean quicker releases, and lower prices. All SHOULD be revealed at E3, but you might expect something sooner if SONY/Ninty/MS want to get a head-start!
This Christmas, despite a few MASSIVE releases seems quite flat. We've had some decent games, granted.... but it doesn't seem like an AWESOME year for gaming. I have few complaints, don't get me wrong.. But we've certainly had better years.
2005 comes straight out of the blocks hitting hard with TimeSplitters 3, FarCry Instincts, Mercinaries and a handful of others in the first two months. All of these are sure to be quality games, and still only serve as an Appetiser for what could be one of the best Spring release-lists in years.
Maybe it's just me. But if you scan down the release lists and see all the games, you should get excited. Add this to the potential announcment of THREE new consoles, Next-Generation games/IP and an ever heating Hald-held battle, and you can't deny that 2005 it going to be damn hot!
Um..... TS3 on Live.......and possibly..... well, Baten Kaitos and KOTOR II of course.
Not sure.
Something decent.
RS4 will be boring after 5 weeks. Again. Like it was before. Unless it actually has a decent single player. On Live it just went --------------> downhill.
Anyhoo, it'll be grand I'm sure.
And Kameo looked awful, last time I checked.
And, as you mentioned, a bunch of new consoles. In short, 2005 will be a year of reckoning for a bunch of the companies who have survived on their names recently and a time for other developers to stand up and be counted. I look forward to it muchly.
