I've just been looking at their new service and it looks quite good.

£9.95 a month and you get unlimited downloads of any song you want, however you've got to pay 99p to be able to copy a song to a music device.

Has anyone used this service yet, and are they any ways to 'cheat' in that you download the song and play it, but then record the song and get around the protection?

I'm happy with paying £9.95 a month, just not happy with paying 99p for every song I wanna put on my ZEN...

I'm gonna listen to every song at least once anyway...

So, um, yeah.

But I think my plan is flawed. These songs are outta control...

They're far too hard to burn and stuff.

Exactly what I'm thinking of doing...

I've signed up to the 7 day free trial now so it should be a good time for experimentations.

How about playing a song, and wiring up your speaker output to the line-in?

Then find a professional-ish program to record what comes in through your Line-in ?

Thats what I'd think, but I'm unsure. They've probably considered it and made it do funny things if you try it.

Yep, I just read that.

Not sure how it works though, you can't play the songs once your subscription to Napster runs out, but how are the songs stored?

If they're stored as WMA single downloads that you can access from Explorer then it's probably possible to convert them to another format and get rid of the encription, but I'm not sure on this...

Anyone know? I might give it a try, just to see... I think there's a 7 day free trial.

They'll be DRM'd.

Digital Rights Management

(I think?)

Anyway, it means Napster have signed an agreement with Microshaft who have signed an agreement with record companys etc etc.
