I had a look through all the DVDs on offer and realised that this was going to be harder than I first thought. Nowdays there are thousands of titles to choose from, some of them in several formats. Added to this there are many differently priced DVDs as well, some having extra discs packed more full of extras than a Jane Austin movie, some with very little on them bar a trailer. Other things I had to contend with were the sound quality, which makes a big difference to the film experience, and whether or not it had a director's commentary (not that I tend to have time to listen to them...)
Lastly, I could have gone for a box set for various series, everything from 4 to 12 hours long! These are more likely to get watched again than movies as they tend to last longer and have a more lasting appeal, plus they are not often repeated on TV.
My friends weren't that much help, virtually every item they suggested I either had or wasn't out yet, and it's not like I have a massive collection of DVDs or anything (ok, so my wife thinks I have too many already, but she'd think that if I only had 10 of them...)
It was down to either getting 4 seperate titles or 1 3 disc set and another single movie, a decision made worse by the fact that I really wanted all of them and there was no way to get around it! In the end I went for the tv box set and got a cheaper movie from somewhere else, now I just have to start saving for all those other films I've seen on my journey through the DVD jungle.
Oh well!
I'm sure it's a very good film with high production values, but not quite what I had in mind.
