In the 21st century celebreties are more popular than ever. For the young woman they look up to Britney Spears, they buy her songs, dress like her and follow her as an example, as stupid as it is. There are also the likes of Hear'Say (shudder) which young talent of the future hope to acheive as they have one day. There is the film stars as well, people adore these actors/actresses forever how much they suck or are good. For myself I don't have much of a role model just people I think are cool, such as the Manics, Radiohead and U2 and also the great Fidel Castro :D.
So we have music stars, pop stars, film stars, TV stars and world figures so why not gaming characters?
There are a few such as Lara Croft, she is popular, advertises a certain drink (even know she is not real) they are even making a movie. There HAVE been Mario and Sonic, with much merchandise, such as clocks, socks(GRIX) and other items.
I have strayed from the subject but the point I was intending to make was that however popular gaming is now and in future, the characters will never be esential role models in any way to people. They will never have same influence as pop stars etc. so there you go :D
POWER OF THE SHEEP
Sonics probably on Speed!
Joanna Dark, kills people! Lara too!
Which leaves me with Pikachu, who shoots jolts of electricity but looks cute...hmmm.
Are their any suitable role models, Conker seems along my lines, down to earth, heavy drinker, stupid squeeky voice...yeah definately a good role model!

Actually, they're getting smaller. It's official. Eidos admitted that the size of Lara's cleavage in the original Tomb Raider was due to a 'graphical glitch'. They also mention that the problem has now been corrected, and her assets are noticably reduced in the later games in the series.
I'm only referrring to the in-game graphics here though, rather than posters and other such merchandise.
And no, it's not at all sad that I happen to know so much about Lara's bits.....
:D
