So I bagged me a set of these nifty things. Setting them up was a bit of a pain, as I haven't a clue when it comes to 5.1 and didn't get a manual with my Audigy 2, so a lot of web surfing and a pinch of trial and error was in order.
Anyway, all set up now, and the results are excellent. Sure, you can argue all day that a full speaker system blows any set of headphones out of the water, but they really are the next best thing.
Featuring 4 speakers (3 'direction' speakers and a sub) on each ear hugging 'phone, the spacial difference is remarkably good considering the close proximity of each speaker, obviously no substitute for a home cinema affair but surprisingly good. I had the matrix reloaded on earlier and you could clearly hear which direction each sword swipe was coming from.
I've yet to try them on a game, such as Doom 3, as I've been messing about with setting them up etc and can't be ass'd at this time.
They have their own amp and an audio output, so you can still keep your stereo plugged into your PC and can use either or both should you require - something I was particularly happy about, the idea of climbing behind my PC with a torch every time I wanted to load Doom 3 was not appealing. They also feature separate volume controls for front, rear and centre/sub so you can tailor your settings to whatever you are viewing/playing. Also a high quality adjustable mike for online gaming or shouting abuse at people on MSN.
So there you have it, I'll submit a full review when I've tested them more thoroughly, but first impressions are v. good.

Your like a walking advert for them :D (i assume you can walk, if you can't i'm sorry).
I am looking at getting a pair but not to keen on the hassle of setting them up. Plus don't your ears get sweaty?

I'll let you know when I've tested them a bit more.
I don't have a lot of experience with wearing headphones for long periods of time - although I can say categorically that at 5am when playing yanks on Rainbow Six 3, the XBOX Live official headset feels like a 6 inch masonry drill bit boring its way into your skull.
These are big chunky things, but feature much more padding. So they may compress your neck, but your ears and head may remain pain free. We'll have to see.
These headphones sound pretty smart, but the thing is I have a habit of having really long gaming binges, and headphones always give me a bit of a headache after a while, usually because my headphones are pretty old and uncomfortable.
Do you think it would be worth me investing in a pair of these then?
Much like the official live headset does. Piece a crap.
