Jeff Minter's Unity has been cancelled.

I'm really quite upset. The man is a gaming god and this looked so amazing. Apparently it just wasn't coming together in time - the team was just too small to start such a big project so far into the Gamecube's lifecycle. Hope this gets resurrected on one of the next-gen consoles.

Yep, 21st Century Minter would be ace. Gridrunner++ is still fairly ace in the meantime, and Llamatron is still floating around the internet and still superb. There's a really good series of articles written by the man himself at www.wayoftherodent.com about his early coding days - it's really cool, geeky, inspiring stuff.

Ah right, I gave up after reading 5 pages of the same comment reworded to high heaven.

I really hope Unity does get released in some form or other; on the PC, as a next gen game, ported to handheld... not being part of the "old school" generation I didn't fully understand how great his games were, only playing Tempest long after it was released. It would have been great to experience a Minter game, 21st century style.

I think he wrote that quite soon after the decision was made but he made another more philosophical post a bit later, saying something like "I've spent 2 years researching and reasearch is never wasted". Unity isn't dead, just resting I hope. A few people on his forums suggested he do a smaller scale project next, something for the DS. I'd love to see what Jeff Minter could do with a DS: man who knows games + cool new hardware = something great , I excpect. He's still my hero.

My gamecube looks quite sad.

That's what you get for dossing around with sheeps too long. Kidding.

I've yet to see a project I've been part of gone to waste; it's always completed or parts taken out and modified to fit other uses. I don't get why Minter has taken such a pessimistic attitude; "I've spent 2 years of my life on this. It's cancelled. I'll move on I guess."

Surely it'll be converted for the next gen console, released for PC... something.
