The games are too damn dear.
My mother wom't let me get any games over £25
This is a pitty cos that means i can only get half decent games.
I haven got one game under £20 thats my dearest game
It is annoying that the games are so exspensive.
but i got some of the best games really cheap like 180 snowbording for £5.99 and f1 gp for £7.99
But i still think it is unfair that the n64 games are dear while the prices of ps1 games are dirt cheap
but any nintendo fan will be glad to hear thet the prices will come down when the n64 finally rests in peace.
It will be a end to a great eirror to console
but wre ready to move on now.
THE END
Plus with so much competition, PS2, Gamecube and X-box the price of games is likely to be driven lower. With only the guaranteed hit games such as MetalGearSolid2 likely to have extortionate price tags.
But then again you pay for quality!
As i remember Turok: dinosaur Hunter was about £60 when it first launched, and now Conker's Bad Fur Day is priced £60 once again it has turned out a bad decision by THQ but the idea of having a £60 price tag on a very mature game was that it was an extra barrier to keep young people from being the game.
Do you think a child can purchase a game that expensive?
Even if they ask parents to buy it what can they do except look at the box and find that it has Elspa ratings on it? They wouldn't buy it for them!
But the £60 used by the older gamer get's you a great game in Conker's Bad Fur Day, when the price tag doesn't matter and you can enjoy all the mature parts of the game.
I agree N64 are way to expensive for most people, i could go out and buy 2 Black & White's if i wanted to with £60!
But i would rather have quality rather than quantity. The N64 has that in alot of there games whatever price they are i will buy the next Zelda even if it was £80!
Just like Rare does with most of their games.
The comparison to Playstation will never be over - it's a quantity versus quality issue. Well, more than that, it's a quantity versus quality, cartridge convenience, better controller issue.
The best N64 games - Zelda, Mario 64, Perfect Dark, Goldeneye etc are arguably (although I'm not trying to start one)better than any single release on the Playstation.
I own both machines (as well as a PS2) and have been happy with both for different reasons. But where longevity is concerned, the N64 wins. Maybe this is a result of the extra expense, or maybe it is because the expense warrants it. The games mentioned above are all huge affairs with virtually unlimited freedom of movement.
Granted, the playstation has its own games with many hours of gameplay (e.g. the Final Fantasy series), but commonly these are spread over a series of disks rather than the hugely convenient non loading time disc, and are more linear than free roaming. Where the playstation tends to win is the short thrill games - mainly the variety of sports and driving titles available - not to mention the ever increasing budget range.
Despite the overwhelming popularity of playstation with its wider variety and cheaper games, the N64 is still a platform all true gamers should own without disappointment. I have recommended (and will continue to recommend) a second hand N64 and cheap back catalogue of games.
I bought my N64 and playstation within weeks of each other, but my current collection of N64 games ratio to playstation games is about 7-1
With the release of the GameCube and the other competition (X-Box, PS2) loading times will be a fact of life. But, for the moment at least, the cartridge isn't quite dead
Advantages:
Low loading times
Robust
Disadvantages:
Expensive
Low memory
Crap sound
Bulky
Little FMV
Loading times are a fact of life. LIVE WITH IT!
It's a free country, I made my free choice. And I'm a better gamer because of it.
(heh)
That's one reason why I've never been interested in Nintendo products.
